Congress party's links with Zakir Naik have been proved beyond doubt today. Times Now channel has made big revelations on Zakir Naik's links with senior Congress politicians on how they shielded and patronized Zakir Naik. The first part of the expose showed how the Gandhi-Nehru family loyalist Digvijay Singh helped to solve Zakir Naik's "problems" upon Naik's return from UK where he was banned for hate speeches. Naik's close aide and confidant Amir Gazdar, in his statement before a Magistrate has made these revelations and these statements are now part of court records.
In his statement Amir has said that upon his return to Mumbai, Naik was detained at the airport by the immigration bureau based on the alert received from UK government. Maharashtra police was then called in to question Naik. Later Amir along with Zakir Naik visited Delhi and met Digvijay Singh, who solved Naik's problem. Naik was already under investigation since 2008 for promoting enmity between religious groups and hate speeches. Digvijay Singh had once eulogized Zakir Naik and praised him as a promoter of peace and harmony whereas the truth is Naik was openly denouncing other religions, fueling Islamic hardliners and supported Bin Laden.
Zakir Naik is already under investigation for being a terror sympathizer and his Islamic foundation and Peace TV channel is under scrutiny. Not only in India, but Naik has also been named by Bangladesh as an ideological mentor for the terror groups. Few months ago it came into light that Zakir Naik's foundation had made big donations to Congress party.
The next part of the expose nailed 2 UPA ministers. As per Amir Gazdar, he went to meet Gulam Nabi Azad and Salman Khurshid after meeting Digvijay Singh and then returned to Mumbai. It’s worth noting that all this happened after UK had placed travel bans on Naik and he was under investigation by Indian authorities. Salman Khurshid and Gulam Nabi Azad were part of the Manmohan Singh cabinet during that time.
These revelations raise serious concerns and questions on the motive behind Congress Party treating Zakir Naik with soft hands. The then Police commissioner of Mumbai and current Member of Parliament Satypal Singh has also said that the UPA government did not pay attention on his report on Zakir Naik's suspicious activities. Was it just because of donations to the Congress party that UPA govt was ignoring the serious allegations against Zakir Naik or was there more to what meets the eye? Only further investigations will make this clear but what is absolutely clear is that Congress leaders chose to side with a terror sympathizer and hate preacher for personal or political gains that too at a time when this person was on the radar of agencies worldwide.
