Yogi's Ayodhya Visit embarks new political debates

Huge crowds gathered at the Hanumangadhi temple and the make shift Ram Temple at Ayodhya yesterday to witness the visit of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. This is only the second instance of a sitting Chief Minister visiting Ram Lalla's temple at Ayodhya after Kalyan Singh had visited the temple in 1991 with his cabinet ministers. As is the tradition, the visit started with Yogi paying his obeisance and performing Pooja at the Hanumangadhi temple, followed by his visit to Ram Lalla and ending with Saryu Aarti. The Chief Minister has declared that Saryu Aarti would now be a permanent feature in lines with Ganga Aarti.

Yogi Adityanath’s visit to Ayodhya gains further importance as the visit comes a day after a special CBI court ordered framing of criminal conspiracy charges in the disputed Babri structure demolition case against BJP stalwarts L K Advani, M M Joshi, Modi Cabinet Minster Uma Bharti and 9 others. Yogi had planned Ayodhya visit earlier too but it was cancelled. But now with the timing of his visit, it can be inferred that Yogi Adityanath is ready to take over the responsibility of constructing the Ram Mandir at Ayodhya. The undertone of the visit was evident when thousands of devotees raised slogans of “mandir wahin banayenge”.

Yogi Adityanath has never shied from making his stand clear on contentious issues. And nothing can make his stand clearer on the Ram Mandir dispute. In his closing remarks at the Digambar Akhada he said, “I am well aware of your sentiments. I know what you want to hear from me. I am of the same opinion as you are. The dispute around Ramjanmabhoomi would be resolved through dialogue between both the communities. Supreme Court has also suggested a dialogue between the two communities. The Uttar Pradesh government will always be there for such an initiative. A new and positive environment for talks is building. Several Muslim organizations have come up appealing that Ayodhya should be left to Hindus. Many more organizations are expected to come up with a similar opinion. Take my word that Ramjanmabhoomi issue would be resolved amicably”.

It is worth noting that Late Swami Paramhans who had established the Ram Lalla statue inside the Babri Structure in 1949 was the head of Digamabr Akhada and was associated with the Ramjanmabhoomi movement for decades.

The Chief Minister also announced developmental projects as well for Ayodhya worth Rs.350 crores.
