Hitting a new low, Nitish Kumar’s Bihar government has decided not to celebrate International Yoga Day (IYD) and has termed it as a mere publicity stunt. Addressing a press conference Nitish Kumar said "I am not against yoga day but I don't like publicity stunts on this (IYD). I also do yoga but have never advertised it". He was taking a jibe at the big preparations being made by the Govt of India's Ayush ministry for the International Yoga day across various cities.
In his personal grudge against PM Modi and bitter political rivalry, Nitish Kumar seems to have forgotten that International Yoga Day is not a center government's initiative but a United Nations resolution accepting and propagating Yoga for a healthy living. United Nations had proclaimed June 21 as the International Yoga Day in 2015 at the behest of Prime Minister Modi.
It’s really shameful that an event celebrated worldwide is being viewed through such narrow political mindset or maybe there is some pressure on Nitish Kumar by his ally RJD. RJD Supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav was recently exposed talking to a jailed mafia don and his children have been exposed doing shady business deals and are being probed by CBI in various scams. Whatever is the case, personal grudge or political frustration, making a mockery of International Yoga Day should have been avoided.
