PM Modi and US President Donald Trump have collectively vowed to fight Pakistan state-sponsored terrorism. Syed Salahuddin was specially designated as a Global Terrorist by the United States just before PM Modi's official dinner with US President Trump. Syed Salahuddin was born on 18 February 1946 in Kashmir's Budgam district. Salahuddin is the head of Hizb-ul-Mujahideen, a militant terrorist group that works to annex the Indian state of Jammu & Kashmir to Pakistan.
Dainik Bharat report says that Syed Salahuddin was a very popular Congress face in Kashmir prior to 1990. He was known as Mohammed Yusuf Shah during this period. The report claims that he was given a Congress MLA ticket in 1987, but was later cheated by the Congress party. The report also claims that Syed Salahuddin a.k.a Mohammed Yusuf Shah played an active role in Kashmir state politics during the period. The Congress party had chosen Salahuddin as its candidate in 1987 from Amira Kadal constituency in Budgam district. However, the party changed its plans later & ditched Salahuddin as it wanted the National Conference Party candidate to win.
The Congress party did not contest from Amira Kadal constituency. Salahuddin was later backed by the Muslim United Front in the 1987 Kashmir assembly election. Media reports claimed Salahuddin contested as a candidate of the Muslim United Front, but the election reports claimed Salahuddin to be an independent candidate. Salahuddin lost the election to National Conference's Ghulam Mohiuddin Shah.
Shah was arrested for his violent agitations after losing the election. After being released from jail, Shah openly voiced his support for Pakistan. The Pakistani agent changed his name to Syed Salahuddin on 5 November 1990. Salahuddin has threatened to turn Kashmir into a graveyard for the Indian forces.
President Trump should not repeat Obama's mistakes by going soft on Pakistan and must take strong action against the rogue, terror-sponsoring country.
