In a major boost to the armed forces, India is all set to get Heron TP armed drones from Israel soon. Heron TP is an armed drone which can detect, track and shoot targets then and there with the help of air to ground missiles.
Proposal to acquire 10 Heron TP drones from Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) was cleared in 2015 and was a part of Modi’s ambitious 250 billion dollar modernization plan of our armed forces.
Let's look at some of the features of this formidable machine
According to the website of Israel Aerospace Industries, Heron-TP is an advanced, Medium Altitude Long Endurance (MALE) drone that can fly up to an altitude of 45,000 feet.
The drone has an all-weather capability and can fly at any time of the day.
It has an endurance of over 30 hours.
It can carry a payload of 1,000 kgs.
The drone is also in compliant with the ATOL (Automatic Taxi-Takeoff-Landing) system and is also compatible with NATO standards.
This drone is also autonomous and can be supervised by a single operator without the need for any external pilot.
This deal took place because India became a member of MTCR regime last year as there is a clause in the treaty of MTCR that forbids members to sell armed drones to non MTCR members. Now one can see why Modi government was pushing so hard to become a member of this group.
