Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has ordered to shift gangsters turned politician Mukhtar Ansari to Agra Central Jail. The previous UP government led by Akhilesh Yadav has brought him to Lucknow jail in last June soon after Ansari’s political party “Qaumi Ekta Dal” merged with Uttar Pradesh’s then ruling Samajwadi Party.
This decision of putting Ansari back to Agra Jail seems to be inline with what PM Narendra Modi has said during a rally in Mukhtar Ansari’s constituency that gangsters will not be spared and will be put behind bars if BJP gets majority in UP elections.
He has been in jail for nearly a decade now and currently facing several criminal cases ranging from kidnapping to murder filed against him.
In response to this decision, Ansari said that the new government is trying to harass me just because I am in the opposition. People in the government are trying to keep me away from my people and I will seek court’s intervention.
However a senior official in the BJP led UP government rejected the charges.
This is a welcome change and will help BJP to strengthen the core voters and gives a strong message to other gangsters as well.
