Another big blow to Kejriwal

Another big blow to Kejriwal

Trouble does not seem to end for the Aam Aadmi Party and it's supremo Arvind Kejriwal. In a shocking development there has been another massive expose on Aam Aadmi Party and Arvind Kejriwal. Arnab Goswami led Republic TV has now come out with another damaging allegation against the already in-trouble Delhi Chief Minister. It is said that Delhi government minister Satyendra Jain disclosed his black money of 16.39 crores under benami names under the Income declaration scheme 2016. This is the same minister who has been alleged to give 2 crore rupees in cash to Arvind Kaejriwal by another Delhi minister Kapil Mishra. It is alleged that the modus operandi was to regularise unauthorised colonies where Satyendra Jain owned agricultural land. The land usage was then changed to commercial use which lead to multifold increase in the cost of the land. Kapil Mishra has already alleged that Satyendra Jain was involved in getting a deal done for Arvind Kejriwal's relative. In short Satyendra Jain made a lot of money by buying cheap agricultural land which he knew would be notified by Delhi government for commercial use.

Earlier in the day we saw Arvind Kejriwal's former comrade in arms and a minister in Delhi govt Kapil Mishra stating that he was an eyewitness to Satyendra Jain paying 2 crore rupees in cash to Arvind Kejriwal. He has also alleged that there was rampant corruption in the departments which comes under the ministries held by Satyendra Jain. Its worth noting that Satyendra Jain holds important ministries like Health and PWD.

After the expose there have been no official response by Arvind Kejriwal or the AAP, except for a minute long press conference by Dy CM Manish Sisodia who said that the allegations by Kapil Mishra were absurd and did not merit a response. As the day progressed we saw tweets by Sanjay Singh saying that Kejriwal's honesty cannot be questioned even by his opponents. Similar sentiments were echoed by Kumar Vishwas who went on to address the reporters saying that he knew Kejriwal for 12 years and its impossible that Kejriwal would accept bribes. There have been protests near Kejriwal's residence by Congress workers and Delhi police has had to resort to using water cannons on the protestors. Demands have been made for Kejriwal's resignation by the Delhi BJP chief Manoj Tiwari.

The entire media has been waiting in vain for a response from the Chief Minister. Till now fingers were being pointed at him for showing leniency towards corruption and turning a blind eye towards the corrupt in his own party. But now for the first time there is a direct allegation of corruption against him. Is this conspicuous silence on part of Kejriwal giving a hint of admittance of guilt? We will have to wait and watch.

But one thing is becoming very clear with each passing hour. Arvind Kejriwal has lost the confidence of his colleagues and the people of Delhi. Arvind Kejriwal is now trapped in his own image. It won't be wrong to say that Arvind Kejriwal has lost the war of perception. He has himself pulled the high chair from underneath him. The high expectations set by him against corruption may now prove to be his downfall.
